Introduction To Alternative Medicine
As time passes, people are becoming more accepting of alternative medicine, but what exactly is it An introduction to alternative medicine seems appropriate.
Alternative medicine is a term that has come to describe health care treatment that strays from what we now consider to be conventional ways of treating illness or injury. It is interesting to note, however, that in many cases these alternative treatments have been around much longer than the conventional treatments we tend to rely on. Alternative medicine is typically used in the place of conventional medicine. In some cases, patients choose to utilize the treatments which fall under the umbrella of alternative medicine along with a more conventional treatment plan. This is called complementary medicine.
There are some people who take issue with the term alternative medicine. They point out that whether a treatment is considered to be a deviation from mainstream medicine depends a lot on where you live. It also varies a lot by culture. What might be considered alternative in one area is a lot more conventional in another. Typically though, alternative medicine consists of several different areas. Chiropractic services, herbalism, ayurveda, homeopathy, naturopathic medicine, unani, traditional Chinese medicine and osteopathy are the main branches of alternative medicine.

I’ll always remember my visits to San Francisco and passing groups of older adults in the parks, practicing Tai Chi. Just watching them brought peace, and you could tell they were entirely involved in their activity. It has always interested me, but I have to admit I have yet to experience it. However, just recently, at a Mindful Eating workshop, we did ‘purposeful walking’, taking very slow and controlled steps ‘with intention’. We could feel every single muscle working as we minutely and consciously lifted a foot, moved it forward, and placed it in front of the other one. This reminded me of what Tai Chi might be like.
But what is Tai Chi, why do people practice it, and can anyone do it
Tai Chi was originally a deadly art, guarded by a few families and used for killing. Traditionalists believe that it is important for students of this ancient art to remember its roots, because the techniques of relaxation and breath control were developed for the express purpose of injuring the opponent in an efficient, scientific manner.

No-one else but you knows you as well as you do.
No-one else has been with you 247 from the time you were born. No-one else will be with you 247 until the day you die.
No-one else can know what is good for you. But you’ve forgotten how to listen. You’ve ignored that inner voice for so long, you’ve forgotten it’s there. So you let other people make choices for you.
